Closet Redo: Getting Dressed…

I’ve been wanting to redo my closet for the last few years, and I’m finally making some progress. It’s not a full renovation since the “bones” of the space is pretty good, but it’s a redo in color and organization. I’ll be talking about the color in a later post (it was actually an easy fix with dramatic results!). This post is about organization, in particular some simple pieces I added to my closet to make planning outfits and getting dressed just a little bit better…

First, let’s talk about a garment or rolling rack. I’ve been on the fence for getting one for awhile… They’re bulky, often flimsy (unless they’re the industrial/commercial type, not pretty), and for hoarders like me :), they end up being just another storage solution. But… a rolling rack is helpful to separate individual clothing pieces from the rest of your wardrobe, gives a better visual of your looks, and helps to easily get dressed especially when you’re in a rush. So I decided to give one a try after seeing this smaller sized garment rack (see photo of mine above and Container Store’s photo below). Love that it doesn’t take as much room, it’s sturdy, tall for longer dresses (not that I have any…), and has shelves on the bottom and top to hold accessories. The perfect solution to plan outfits without overtaking your space!

Also bought clear shelf liners so things don’t fall through the wire racks. Completely translucent (see my photo at top), you can barely notice it’s there underneath my heels and purse.

Another closet item I’m loving now is this jewelry organizer. I have several long necklaces and storing them has always been a struggle. Tucked away in a drawer uses too much space that I need and arranged on a necklace “tree”, made my dresser look cluttered. This hanging organizer ($10!) takes up little space and can be easily hidden from view on the rolling rack or on a closet rack when not in use.

These gorgeous acrylic hangers may not change the way I hang my clothes, but they’re so luxurious that they make me love my closet more and want to keep the space organized. Even if you just have a few for your “planned” outfits on your rolling rack, they are ideal for a modern/chic closet! I buy the petite size hangers so they don’t mess up the shoulders of my more fitted tops and jackets.

So what about you? Have any tips for simple closet organization without major investment?

On another note, if you’re looking for a dress (maybe for Valentine’s?), the dress in the top photo is so elegant and chic and on sale now!!
