NYFW Spring/Summer 2017 – Vivienne Tam

close up of runway look
The Vivienne Tam collection for Spring/Summer 2017 was as dynamic and progressive as the designer herself! Per show notes, the collection was inspired by “the vibrant diversity and energy of Houston, Texas, where art, music, culinary arts, science and technology intersect harmoniously in a multicultural cornucopia”.

An international designer, Vivienne Tam continued her “East-meets-West” approach to design via motifs to symbolize “Western Cowboy” meets “Eastern Cowboy”. The colors, which were vivid and bold such as Astro orange, bayou green, intense coral, and NASA blue, were balanced with black, white, silver and red pieces. A standout detail of the collection were the floral prints and designs which represented Houston’s indigenous wildflowers, a symbol of the city’s ecological diversity.
The looks were whimsical with a boho twist and included feminine details such as off the shoulder tops, ruffled sleeves and fitted waists.

Some of my favorite features of the collection were the metallic fabrications and fluid silhouettes, two common trends across the runways for #SS17.
