Last week I attended a press breakfast to celebrate the opening of Skagen‘s first New York flagship store. Recently introduced to their new collection of bags (see my post here), I looked forward to view their different product offerings in person. I was also particularly interested to see how the physical store would interpret the specific functional meets minimal with style aesthetic (read about the brand here) of Skagen, “a lifestyle brand inspired by the contemporary Danish design movement”.
Located at 1585 Broadway, Skagen’s new store is a refreshingly serene and stylistically simple oasis in the crazy bustle of Times Square. With the use of natural grey wood, warm earthy colors, and lots of detail with different textures and surfaces, the store is warm and inviting.
Watches and jewelry, and leather accessories and bags for both men and women are the main product lines featured in the store as well as a specially curated collection of unique products sourced from around the world. I was happy to find that the products look even better in person, with Skagen’s reputation of high-quality clearly evident. Also, some of the bags which I had only previously seen online had design elements (like a hidden zipper or alternate function) which I discovered only after picking them up… well thought-out details which demonstrated the sophistication of the design.
